Bunion: when your big toe points toward the second toe resulting in a bump to appear on the outside edge of your toe. Symptoms include red, calloused skin along the outside edge of the big toe and pain in this joint, worse from the pressure of your shoes.
A bunion forms when your big toe moves out of place as your forefoot presses into the ground with every step. In other words, a bunion is the end result of a flattened arch causing your forefoot to spread. This clearly isn’t normal. As the forefoot spreads, the big toe is forced to angle inwards towards the second toe. Over time, after millions of steps, the big toe gradually becomes “set” in this deformed position.
But wait, there’s no need to suffer OR have surgery. Whew!
