Shin Splints: Medial tibial stress syndrome (MTSS), often referred to as shin splints, is an overuse injury of the lower leg that affects a large majority of the athletic population. Pain anywhere along the shinbone commonly seen in runners and athletes. The primary cause of shin splints is the overuse of the involved muscle and tendon. Another major cause is overpronation (See Excessive Foot Pronation Video Clip) or arch flattening. The tibialis anterior and tibialis posterior muscles help support your arch and become overworked when the arch flattens. This results in pain and inflammation.
Custom calibrated, made-from-scratch, foot orthotics remains the most effective treatment for shin splints. Our orthotics tackle both the current painful condition and prevent re-occurrence over the long term. Our orthotics cradle your arch relieving the stress on the injured muscles. This is essential in correcting the structural cause of the problem: a falling arch with each step.
