Spring Marathon Season Is In Full Swing: How to Stay Safe

Spring-Marathon-Season-in-phoenix

Spring marathon season is that highly anticipated time of year running enthusiasts itch for.

According to Dr. Dave with Arizona Orthotics, “Marathon season is that time of year we see a lot of unnecessary foot, ankle, knee, hip and back injuries.”

During a 26.2 mile run your feet strike the ground around 37,500 times, at a force of 3 to 4 times bodyweight.

Poor shock absorption is the most common cause of injury.

Every useful discussion about running touches on the need to reduce shock in order to avoid injury AND improve performance.

Even after your choice of running technique is mastered, one constant remains – GRAVITY.

Truth is, if gravity ceased to exist so would running injuries.

“The way in which the body handles the shockwave of force every time the foot hits the ground will always be an issue,” explains Dr. Dave.

“We are truly excited to offer a precise yet simple and effective way to combat gravity.”

Shock absorption is entirely dependent upon the alignment of each foot – when the arch fails to provide adequate support against bodyweight and gravity – BAD SPRING.

Simply put, bad springs don’t absorb shock.

How to Stay Safe this Marathon Season

1. Have your feet checked for signs of improper shock absorption.

Corns, callouses, foot shape changes, forefoot widening, flat feet… ALL Positive Signs of a bad spring – fix it!

2. Optimize how your feet handle gravity, part I.

If your technique is poor – fix it.

Good technique means you can run barefoot on concrete without a problem.

Hire a running coach or practice some of the drills offered by Pose Tech before hitting the road again.

3. Optimize how your feet handle gravity, part II.

If your foot is NOT properly Locking and Unlocking between Supination and Pronation respectively, your foot is a poor spring – fix it!

Correct dysfunctional pronation and supination with a custom foot orthotic precision calibrated specific to individual needs.

In conclusion, to stay safe this marathon season, make sure your feet properly absorb shock.
